Campion Allante 545 Review
Hull and Top Deck
Canadian Campion Marine introduced the Allante 545 in 1996 but it was discontinued after two years of production.
After a three-year hiatus, she was re-introduced in the early 2000s and remained in production until 2019.
The manufacturer marketed this model with both sterndrive and outboard engine packages under the model names Allante 545i and Allante 545, respectively.
What’s more, this early (1996-1997) generation could be opted with a closed deck bow design as well.
Unlike the predecessor, the 2001-2019 Allante 545 was exclusively available with bowrider top deck architecture.
In most years she was available with sterndrive engines, so in this review, we’ll focus on this variant.
The boat was built on an 18-foot modified V fiberglass hull enjoying the innovative Apex hull design, Kevlar laminate reinforcement, and a full composite transom.
It had a beam of about 8.5 feet and an overall length of 20 feet with the swim platform extension.
This traditional bowrider layout had a walk-thru windshield and two race-inspired swivel bucket seats with flip-up bolsters.
For easy access to the swim platform, the center section of the four-passenger aft bench seat and sun pad cushions were removable.
This walk-thru transom passage was a very neat addition since this feature is typically found on larger boats.
Unique and stylish, the well-designed cockpit had plenty of free space, cushioned side panels, and an abundance of convenience features.
Standard features included clip-in Berber carpet, integrated stainless steel cup holders, handrails, navigation lights, and an audio system.
Storage compartments included under-seat storage units, a removable ice bin, a glovebox, and an in-floor ski locker.
At the helm, you had a molded dash with full instrumentation, sun visor, cup holder, and a racy steering wheel with three metal spokes.
The bow housed a large forward lounge with full wraparound seating and side panel storage compartments.
Depending on the year and engine package, the dry weight of the sterndrive model averaged between 2,700 and 2,900 pounds.
Adding the weight of liquids, gear, and a matching single-axle trailer, you could expect the gross trailering weight of the Allante 545 to be in the neighborhood of 3,500-4,000 pounds.
Engines and Performance
During her long lifespan, the Allante 545 was offered with many different gasoline and diesel power sources.
Available engine packages included smooth and reliable Volvo and MerCruiser sterndrives from 135 up to 225hp.
The most popular of these were arguably the carbureted 4.3L MerCruiser TKS and its multiport fuel-injected variant, the 4.3L MerCruiser MPI.
These V6 marine engines delivered 190 and 220hp, respectively.
Fitted with the former, the Allante 545 topped out in the high 40s and cruised in the mid-20s.
Thanks to its unique design with a 19-degree transom deadrise, the hull offered smooth rides, great stability, and true tracking.
