How Much Does a Center Console Weigh? [Weight Chart]

You can expect the gross trailering weight of a center console fishing boat to be anywhere from 1,700 to 60,000 pounds. The entry-level (15-20 ft.) models weigh about 1,700-4,800 pounds, while their mid-range (21-30 ft.) siblings weigh 4,800-14,000 pounds on a trailer. Interestingly, the weight of the largest models (60-65 ft.) can reach a whooping 65,000 pounds.

If you want to find out more about average weights in each size class, this post is for you.

Average Center Console Weights

Besides their length, the curb weight of center console (a.k.a. “CC”) fishing boats depends on many different factors like its hull design, materials, features, power options, and capacities.

What’s more, their gross trailering weight is also dependent on the material and features of the trailer.

Hence, giving exact weight figures based on just their hull lengths is nearly impossible.

This is why our team collected the claimed weight specifications of many different models from various manufacturers, most of which fall within well-defined ranges.

These ballpark ranges include many production models, but of course, there are always exceptions. Hence, please consider our numbers ballpark figures!

The Lightest Center Consoles (15-20 ft.)

Small or entry-level center consoles measure 15-20 feet in length and weigh roughly 1,100-3,200 pounds dry with a single outboard engine.

The lightest center consoles are built on 15-16-foot hulls, which typically only weigh 800-1,100 pounds.

Completed with an engine, trailer, and liquids, their gross trailering weight increases to 1,700-2,600 pounds.

The hull weight of their 17–18-foot siblings is typically 900-2,200 pounds, while a single 75-150hp engine adds another 250-500 pounds.

Filled up with liquids and loaded on a single-axle trailer, the gross weight of these rigs remains in the neighborhood of 2,200-4,200 pounds.

The heaviest models in this breed measure 19-20 feet in length and weigh 1,800-3,200 with engines.

Compared to smaller models, these boats offer much more spacious interiors, but their gross trailering weight remains under the barrier of 5,000 pounds.

Also, they are usually powered by relatively smaller 115-200hp single engine packages, which converts to lower prices and running costs.

Midsized Center Consoles (21-30 ft.)

As a rule of thumb, the dry weight of midsized center consoles between 21 and 30 feet falls into the ballpark of 3,400-10,000 pounds.

The lightest midsized CCs are the 21-22-footers, since their hull weight averages between 2,600 and 3,500 pounds.

Fitted with a 200-250hp single outboard, their dry rigged weight increases to 3,000-4,000 pounds, while the liquids and batteries add another 600-900 pounds to their overall weight.

As a rule of thumb, most models in this breed require a tandem-axle trailer weighing 800-1,200 pounds.

Doing the math, the total trailering weight of these 21-22-foot fishing boats converts to 4,500-6,000 pounds.

Due to their larger bodies, greater capacities, and more powerful (300-400hp) engines, the same specification of a 23-24-footer center console averages between 6,300 and 9,500 pounds.

Sure, just the hull weight of these models ranges from 4,200 to 7,000 pounds.

Many fishermen agree that the largest center consoles can be easily trailered are 25-26 feet long, and with good reason.

The gross trailering weight of this size class is roughly 7,500-11,000 pounds, as their beam rarely crosses the critical limit of 8 feet 6 inches.

Let’s face it, these longer boats are not only difficult to maneuver at gas stations and in parking lots. But they also face problems on ramps, which often prove to be too short for their large trailers.

And this is without mentioning their remarkable trailering weight, which can reach 8,500-13,000 pounds for CCs between 27-28 feet, and 9,500-14,000 pounds for those between 29-30 feet.

As one may expect, regularly trailering these heavy boats is not for everyone.

Hence, if you are looking for a trailerable center console, you may want to stay under 25-26 feet.

The Heaviest Center Consoles (31-65 ft.)

Large center consoles above 30 feet are known for their sturdy hulls, large decks, and an abundance of practical features.

In return, they are fairly heavy and bulky, which makes them impossible to trailer on a regular basis.

As a rule of thumb, the curb weight of 31-32- and 33–34-footer center consoles are in the ballparks of 10,000-13,000 and 12,000-16,000 pounds, respectively.

For CCs between 35 and 40 feet you can expect a curb weight of 13,000-20,000 pounds.

The heaviest center consoles are between 45 and 65 feet.

The claimed curb weight of these boats starts at around 30,000 pounds and goes all the way up to a whopping 65,000 pounds.

One of the heaviest center consoles ever built is the 65-foot HBC 6500 Estrella with a claimed dry and curb weights of 40,000 and 65,000 pounds, respectively.

Takeaways

You can expect the curb weight of a center console fishing boat to be anywhere from 1,500 pounds to a whopping 65,000 pounds.

Easy to trailer and handle, entry-level models with 15-20-foot hulls weigh roughly 1,100-3,200 pounds dry and 1,700-4,800 pounds fully loaded on the trailer.

Spacious and comfortable, midsized models measure 21-30 feet in length while their dry weight averages between 2,600 and 9,000 pounds.

21-26 footers can be towed regularly with certain compromises since the gross trailering weight in this size class ranges between 4,500 and 11,000 pounds.

Due to their massive weight and large dimensions, CCs above this size limit are not considered trailerable boats.

When it comes to large center consoles above 30 feet, their dry weight starts at roughly 10,000 pounds and can reach a whopping 40,000+ pounds.

Fully rigged and loaded, the curb weight of the largest models can approach an incredible 65,000 pounds.
