Sea Ray 200 Sundeck Specs and Review [Video]

Marketed from 2003 through 2012, the long-lived 200 Sundeck was part of the iconic Sea Ray Sundeck series. She was built on a deep-V fiberglass hull paired with 220-300hp MerCrusier sterndrive engines.

Let’s drill into the details and talk about this popular dayboat in detail!

Sea Ray 200 Sundeck Review

Hull and Top Deck

Designed with great performance and capacities in mind, the Sundeck series enjoyed a unique design.

In a nutshell, the architecture of these boats blended a bowrider-style deep-V fiberglass hull with the interior of a deck boat.

Thanks to this mixed-breed DNA, many Sundecks became best-sellers in their size class.

Revealed in 2003, the 200 Sundeck (200 SD) was introduced as the successor of the proven 190 Sundeck.

This revamped model measured 21 feet in length with the swim platform and it had a beam of 8 feet 4 inches.

Her claimed dry weight was 3,500-3,550 pounds, depending on the model year.

Fully loaded on the trailer, the estimated gross trailering weight of the boat was 5,300-5,500 pounds with a standard engine and without any gear onboard.

Designed with a seamless one-piece fiberglass liner, the interior of the 200 Sundeck offered plenty of free deck space.

Boarding was easy via the walk-thru transom and the steps in the bow.

The latter housed an insulated ice chest and a bow peak storage locker for an anchor and a beach ladder.

These steps allowed you to enter a cozy forward lounge fitted with cushioned seats, armrests, cup holders, grab handles, and a table mount.

Separated by a curved, tinted windshield, the cockpit had a starboard rotocast bucket seat with a flip-up tight-rise, and an L-shaped lounger with a flip-down backrest.

This portside lounger not only converted into a forward-facing spotter seat but also included a wakeboard/waterski storage unit.

The latter was greatly needed since the boat surprisingly lacked an industry-standard floor ski locker.

In return, she had two sizable console storages, and the door of the port side unit doubled as a bow block-off door.

A deck drain system, snap-in carpet, integrated stainless-steel cup holders, grab handles, navigation lights, mooring cleats, eyelets, integrated armrests, an audio system, and a Sunbrella Bimini top all came standard.

Inviting and spacious, the swim platform had a folding swim ladder and a pressure relief vent.

The transom was also fitted with many bells and whistles like a grab handle, and a ski tow eye or an optional transom stern drive tilt control and stereo remote.

A the helm, you had a tilt steering wheel, integrated cup holder, 12V outlet, an optional compass, and a simple dashboard.

Protected by a sun visor, the latter housed a stereo remote, an illuminated electronic waterproof switch pad, and gauges.

Instrumentation included an innovative Smarcraft tachometer, speedometer, and multi-gauge (oil pressure, water temp., trim, fuel level).

Optional features included a dinette table with a removable cockpit table base, battery on/off switch, bow filler cushion, automatic fire suppression system, a head, premium audio system with remote controls, compass, transom trim switch, watersport tower, wakeboard racks, a canvas package, and more.

Engines and Performance

Just like many other Sea Ray runabouts, the 200 Sundeck was also powered by reliable 4-stroke MerCrusier sterndrive engines.

Each of these powerful propulsion systems utilized advanced technologies like a multi-port fuel injection system (MPI), remote oil filter, and a stainless steel propeller.

The standard engine package was the 4.3 MPI Alpha I MCM. This 262 cid. V6 marine engine delivered 220hp out of the box.

Its more powerful optional V8 variants, the 5.0 MPI and the 350 Magnum MPI delivered 260 and 300hp, respectively.

The latter could be opted with either Alpha I MCM or a more advanced Bravo III MCM leg, while the 5.0 was exclusively available with an Alpha I MCM drive.

Fitted with the standard 220hp 4.3L engine, the 200 Sundeck could reach a top speed of 40-45 mph depending on the load, prop size, and environmental conditions.

However, some owners found the boat slightly underpowered with this standard engine package.

This is why the optional 5.0L was far more popular. It was not only very reliable and easy to service but also offered a top speed of around 50 mph.

Compared to other deck boats with shallower hulls, the deep-V hull of the 200 SD offered a smoother riding experience on the chop.

Takeaways

Except for some cosmetic upgrades, Sea Ray manufactured the 200 Sundeck from 2003 through 2012 without any significant changes.

This is no surprise since the 200 SD was a well-designed runabout that promised easy handling both on the water and on the ramp.

Her mixed architecture successfully blended the performance of a 20-degree deep-V bowrider hull with the comfort of a deck boat floorplan.

Under the hood, you could find a standard 4.3 V6 220hp MerCrusier engine, that could be opted for 260 and 300hp V8 packages.

Her reputation for reliability and durability means the 200 SD is still in demand on the used market.

Since this model had been manufactured for a decade with four different engine options, asking prices vary greatly.

If you are looking for a 200 Sundeck for sale, be prepared to pay anywhere from $10,000 to $30,000.
