Wellcraft Fisherman 210 Review and Specs [Video]

Wellcraft offered the 21-foot Fisherman 210 between 1999-2004 and 2009-2014 as the larger sibling of the Fisherman 180. She had a 19-degree fiberglass hull, a center console deck layout, and a single outboard engine packages up to 250hp.

In this post, we’ll review this entry-level center console motorboat’s second generation (2009-2014).

Wellcraft Fisherman 210 Review

Hull and Top Deck

Wellcraft released the Fisherman 210 as a center console variant of the Coastal 210 walkaround sportfisher and the dual-console 210 Spotsman.

These boats came with different top deck architectures, but shared the same moderate deep-V hull with a 19-degree transom deadrise.

Unlike her outdated first-generation ancestor, the 2009 Fisherman 210’s body was made of full fiberglass with composite stringers and transom.

As the name suggests, the boat had an overall length of 21 feet and a trailerable beam of 8.5 feet.

Just like many other Wellcraft fishing boats, the 210 was also considered quite heavy for its size category.

Her advertised dry weight was 3,645 pounds, which increased to 3,700-4,000 pounds fully loaded and rigged with a matching outboard.

Loaded on a tandem-axle trailer, the gross trailering weight of this 21-foot center console averaged between 4,500-5,000 pounds.

Instead of a regular walkaround interior design with an integrated swim platform, the cockpit area was expanded up to the point of the engine-mounting screws.

(BoatingMag described this floorplan as a “cab-aft” layout.)

This architecture provided significantly more interior space but sacrificed the industry-standard integral platform on the transom.

Instead, you had a bolt-on half-size swim platform with a retractable swimming ladder.

Located on both sides of the engine in the stern corners, the removable jump seats came with cushions and backrests.

Utilizing a non-slip full fiberglass liner with an integrated drain system, the cockpit was fitted with stainless steel grab rails, fishboxes, livewells, integrated cup holders, gunwale rod holders, and storage compartments.

Protected by a windscreen and Bimini top, the center console was large enough to accommodate a portable helm.

However, this easy-to-reach locker was more typically used for storage.

The base of the two-person helm seat doubled as an aft-facing bench seat with storage underneath.

Sturdy and practical, the dashboard featured the most important instrumentation, a compass, WHF radio, a durable stainless steel steering wheel, switch panel, storage locker, 12V outlet, a shift/throttle lever, and cup holders.

Bowing towards the bow, the forward section had sizable bench seats and an optional cooler seat in front of the console.

In terms of capacities, the boat was rated for 8 persons or 1,160 pounds with a weight capacity of 2,100 pounds.

She also came with a 103-gallon fuel tank, while an optional 48-quart cooler came as an option, as did a 5-gallon freshwater tank.

The list of other optional features included cushions, backrests, cockpit bolsters, a full bow rail, trim tabs, an audio system, and a pressurized fresh water system.

Sun protection could either be a Bimini top with boot, or a T-top canvas with PDF storage, spreader light, and rod holders.

Engines and Performance

Simple and fuel-efficient, the Wellcraft Fisherman 210 was marketed with single outboard engine packages.

Power options included Mercury, Evinrude, and Yamaha power sources with either 2-stroke or 4-stroke powerheads rated at 150, 200, and 250hp depending on the model.

The exact list of engine packages varied by year, but most of them included Evinrude E-TEC 150/200/250, Mercury 150/200/250, Mercury Verado 200, Mercury OptiMax 200/250, and Yamaha F150/200/250 engines.

Performance wise, a 4-stroke Yamaha F200 propelled the Fisherman 210 up to a top speed of 43.3 mph at 5850 RPM.

With an engine at 4000 RPM, her cruising speed was 28.3 mph while getting 3.1 mpg for a range of 307 miles.

After five years of hiatus, the Wellcraft Fisherman 210 returned for the 2009 model year.

She enjoyed a wood-free hull and construction elements, high-quality features, and superior finishes.

Thanks to her well-built body and wide-ranging power options, this towable 21-foot center console instantly became popular among fishermen.

Her reputation for durability and reliability means this heavy-duty fishing boat is in demand on the used market.

Depending on their age, condition, engine package, and features, asking prices vary greatly, but they typically range from $25,000 to $40,000.

Besides this 21-footer, her closest relatives, including the 18-foot Fisherman 180 and the 23-foot Fisherman 232 are also popular among used boat buyers.
