Sea Ray Laguna 18 Review

Hull and Top Deck

As the name suggests, the Laguna was an 18-foot Sea Ray center console powered by Mercury outboard motors.

To be more precise, the overall length of the boat was 17 feet 10 inches, which extended to 19 feet 9 inches with the standard bow pulpit.

Her self-draining deep-V hull was made of high-performance vinylester resin covered by an “Arctic White” gel coat.

Color-coordinated thru-hull fittings, stainless steel cleats and eyelets, navigation lights, and an integrated bow pulpit all came standard.

The claimed dry weight of the boat was 2,260 pounds and you could expect a gross trailering weight of nearly 3,000 pounds.

Utilizing a center console architecture, the interior of the Laguna 18 CC was designed with high-quality materials and finishes.

At the helm, you had a tilt steering wheel, a high-profile acrylic windshield, and dual swivel helm seats with snap-on cushions.

Simple yet practical, the minimalist dashboard housed a compass, a 12V receptacle, and analog instruments.

Fitted with two transom doors, the full-height walk-thru transom and the swim platform ensured easy access to the water.

Fishermen appreciated the sizeable lockers including lockable console storage, under-seat storage, side storage bins, and a sizeable ancor locker.

Keeping fishing adventures in mind, the Laguna 18 was also fitted with rod holders, recessed rod racks, a forward fish box with an overboard drain, an integral transom livewell, and a sink with a cutting board.

Other standard deck features included stainless steel grab rails, removable cockpit vinyl bolsters, cockpit lights, a Bimini top, and more.

A safety package, removable console cooler, console cover, hour meter, audio system, VHF radio, additional rod holders, sea water wash down, auxiliary motor bracket, dual batteries, bow cushions, and helms seat covers were also available as options.

Engines and Performance

The standard power of the Laguna 18 was a 2-stroke 135hp Mercury outboard, which could be opted for a 175hp Mercury.

There’s no question that the performance of the former was more than enough for this little hull.

You could expect a top speed of close to 40 mph and she cruised around 30 mph with ease.

She offered a decent riding on glass and a small chop but struggled on rough waters.

Of course, this tiny vessel was not designed for such conditions!

Takeaways

Marketed in the mid-‘90s, the Laguna 18 CC was a decent little Sea Ray fishing boat fitted with Mercury 135/175hp outboards.

Just like any other Sea Ray Laguna center consoles, the 18 also came standard with an abundance of features and amenities.

One of the few drawbacks of this model was her limited free deck space, but let’s not forget that she was an 18-footer.

Thanks to their durability and reliability, many of these boats are still in pretty good shape.

If you are looking for one, you may find some Laguna 18s for sale on Craigslist, eBay, FB Marketplace, and other online marketplaces.

Based on our research, the asking prices of these classic 18-foot center consoles range between $5,000 and $10,000 depending on their condition and location.
